This is painted with oil paint on canvas, with the addition of multi-media details such as gold-leaf. Some of my favorite summer memories growing up in Georgia, were the evenings spent in the front yard at dusk, watching the lightning bugs come out to socialize. Sometimes my sister and I would run around with the dogs, catching fireflies and putting them in store-bought or homemade bug catchers before letting them all loose; other times the family would just sit quietly together and watch the lights blink against the fading sky. Either way, this painting brings up feelings of warm and fuzzy family bonding and memories that will follow my kids into their childhood the first time I show them the wonders of fireflies.
