This piece is done with acrylic and oil paint on canvas. This particular painting idea actually stemmed from a conversation I had with my therapist at the time. She told me to think of myself as a rock in the ocean, braving the waves and withstanding the storms; I took it one step further though. I thought of myself as using the rock as a tool, but really I was the plant growing and flourishing inside the rock despite the hardships. Plants are much stronger than a lot of people give them credit for, as they regularly grow through literal rocks. I thought of myself as a flower blooming out of a hard exterior that was used for survival and served that flower well. When you look at the flower blooming out of this rock-tower in the painting, I hope you think of hope and triumph over adversity like I do.
