An Installment of Poetry by The Art Guy
If life is a road, consider me coasting
Buckled into my mind,
The door to my destination is closing
Eyes glued to my rear view mirror, studying where I’ve been before turning my attention forward at last
Memorizing landmarks and signs in case I’ll ever need to navigate my past Now I know where I’ve been, only to find myself going too fast
Lesson learned, eyes facing forward to what is yet to come
I need to focus on my next turn, not just where I came from
Too focused on the road ahead, hardly noticing I’ve started to hum,
The song that’s playing, I love it, turn in all the way up, make the bass bump For the first time, I find myself stepping on the brake, without any warning of a traffic stop or speed hump
If life is a road, now, consider me slowing down
Unbuckle myself from my mind
My new destination is Now.
